Cellar in the sky

Going back from San Francisco with a glass of Shiraz
Welcome aboard! I step into the airplane and hence leave behind those huge Sonoma and Napa (un p) Valley vineyards.

Red Carpet to Sao Paulo
First sip of champagne: Drappier Carte d’Or. Seat: 7C. The weather in Paris seems greyer than usual compared to the striking red of the TAM, and the smiles of the flight attendants.

Night flight for Buenos Aires
Ahhh… The magic of evening flights! A glass of 2006 Côte-Rôtie Les Essartailles to kick off this trip over the Atlantic towards the austral lands of Argentina, its immense Patagonia and its “mendozinos” terroirs.

Air Tahiti Nui
Air Tahiti Nui is already flying to dream destinations: New York, Sydney, Los Angeles, Paris, Auckland, Tokyo, Osaka and of course Papeete.

In-flight massage and Chianti
Another way of travelling? It certainly is! The trip begins in the Virgin Atlantic lounge of Heathrow’s terminal 3. The kind of place that the set-designers for StarTrek couldn’t have dreamt up.

A dream flight to Cape Town
You’re surrounded by British chic the moment you step onto the aircraft. The flights are all the same, offering you a glass of Champagne before every takeoff? Yes, they are. Except this one is at the perfect temperature. And, to set the tone for you before leaving, I’m going to try British Airways’ “award-winning selection of fine wines and Champagne,” just for you.

OpenSkies
“Cranberry juice or Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve Champagne?” someone offers me. The OpenSkies Biz bar takes off before time in a hushed and cosy navy blue and grey cabin. The black-and-white photographs of Paris and New York hanging on the walls amplify that “lounge” feeling while the chairs facing each other make you quickly forget that you have just got on board a plane.
